Me and Josh thought how nice it would be for the babies to be born on the 27th, because our anniversary is on the 27th and Josh’s birthday is on the 27th, too.
8:30 am
This was when I reported to the hospital for my induction. When I got there I was greeted by the nurses and got all situated in my labor room.
9:30-10:00 am
My vitals were taken, the heart monitors went on (for me, Baby A and Baby B), and my IV got started.
The doctor checked my cervix and told me that my body was pretty much not even ready to go into labor… (I was not dilating). So they started the induction off with a thing called Cervadil (I am not sure about the spelling), that helped me open my cervix.
At this point I was limited to eating jello and drinking fruit juice, water and ice chips. I thought it was cool for a while…
11:00 am
My mom and mother in law meet me and my husband to support us through the labor.
2:00 pm
The contractions were coming on more often, and it was intensifying. I began to do different labor techniques from the birthing class that me and my husband took in Kahuku. We pretty much did something different every hour…half hour. It really helped a lot.
The doctor tells me I am now limited only to ice chips……..it sucked, but it was ok. (not as bad as the contractions)
10:00 pm
The contractions were getting pretty tough…and the labor pains were getting harder and harder to bear. My lower back is in terrible pain and I have a nerve shooting up my right leg every couple minutes. It just hurts. I try to repeat labor positions and it’s just getting really hard.

Uncle Quaylee’s birthday…poor thing…at first he did, but as the time got closer, he DID NOT want them born on his birthday.
12 midnight
I just can’t take it anymore! The doctor checks my cervix. After everything that I went through that day, I am only at 3 centimeters…..I am starting to feel discouraged. I thought, “Man, there’s probably like 3 women that had their babies already and came after me.”
I ask the doctors for something that can take the edge off the pain, so that I can try to go longer without having to do the epidural. So, they give me something (I forgot the name of it) and at first it felt good, but the medicine went away and the pain came back on so fast.
1:00 am
I ask the doctors for the epidural. This is when the episode happened. They asked everyone (my mom, Donna, and Josh) to leave the room. This was tough for me because I was in the most pain and they couldn’t be there to help me. The nurse that tended to me that night was not the greatest either.
Right after they left the room (mind you, she told them that she would take care of me), she tells me “Ok sweetie, now I am going to have to have you move over there and do this…” I was like “Um, I can’t because I am really really sore. My back is really sore and my leg is really sore.” “Well, I guess you could grab onto my leg but don’t pull too hard or you will hurt my back.”
The anesthesiologist was da bomb. She did a really good job with the epidural. As soon as it was administered I felt really weak. At that moment, all of our blood pressures dropped (mines, and the babies). I immediately had to be put on oxygen for the doctor to stabilize all of us. I said a prayer and just told heavenly father “I don’t care about me, just take care of the babies.” I felt the presence of multiple spirits administering to the nurses aid. It was a cool experience for me.
2:00 am
Because the epidural was in, now we could all sleep….and we did.
6:00 am
The doctor checks my cervix again…. I am still at 3 centimeters…I did not progress. I am thinking “Man, I can just tell the doctors I want a C-section and the babies will be born in 10 minutes.” I was really starting to get down on myself. The nurses were telling us that I was really good for going that long yesterday without the epidural. Most women give up after the first few hours.
The doctor then starts to administer petossin to speed up the labor. I am like “bring it on…we gotta get them out!”
8:00 am
Breakfast…ice chips (yes!). My father in law stops by the hospital…and he ended up feeding me the ice chips. We were thinking what would the people say at Matsumotos if I ordered a shaved ice without any flavor.
We had everyone in our family predict what time I would give birth to the babies…pretty much everyone was all off….even myself.
12:00 pm
Doctors check my cervix, and I am still not progressing, so they up m
y dose of petossin every hour from this point.
5:00 pm
I am feeling the contractions….it is kind of funny that I feel it because I thought I had the epidural in….yeah. It pretty much wore off.
8:00 pm
Doctor checks my cervix again, and I am finally at 7 centimeters. I am like…”Yay…it’s going to happen tonight!” (Yeah, I was way off.)
10:00 pm
Baby A’s water bag breaks (yes, I have 2 water bags for each baby) I am feeling the urge. The doctor then tells me something I didn’t want to hear. She tells me DO NOT PUSH. I have to wait for Baby A to get down the birth canal on its own so that I can save my energy to push Baby B out.
This was the hardest thing for me to do.
Congrats, Quaylee….it doesn’t look like they will be born on your birthday.

The babies are going to have their own birthday!
12 midnight
I am at 9/10 centimeters, but Baby A is at a negative station….the contractions are intensifying so I ask the anesthesiologist for another shot of epidural. (I am so grateful for the epidural….it saved my labor) I was really trying not to push but every now and then I just couldn’t resist but to push.
I am sweating….the amniotic fluid still flowing.
3:00 am
Doctor checks my station…we are still at a negative…and I am just miserable.
4:30 am
Doctors say I can start to push now, so I wake up Josh and they wheel me into the Operating Room. Yes, I had to deliver there just in case anything happens.
It feels like Baby A is going to swim out.
Did I mention that my mom and mother in law couldn’t make it to the labor? Yeah…that was kind of messed up. I only could have one person with me for the birth. So, they had to wait patiently down the hall while I was in the Operating Room with Josh.
5:00 am
I start pushing….I am pushing…and boy, I feel so good to push.
5:35 am
Jordan Lanakila Kupa’aikapomekeao Makaiwi is born at 5 pounds 8 ounces. Wooo wooo!
I am feeling real. “That was so easy, I have so much energy….let’s go!” The nurse held him up and was like…here’s your first baby! And I was like “Awe, so cute!” but I still had to push for Baby B.
6:00 am
After pushing for a half hour, I ask the doctor “What is that?” …all I hear is SNIP…SNIP…SNIP. (She’s cutting me open!) I know, she’s only helping me…and she’s trying to make it bigger so that Baby B can fit through. All they told me was… “Keep pushing! He’s right there!”
6:30 am
Still pushing. I can feel him. He’s at plus 2 station. The doctor tries the vacuum…..Baby B gets stuck. The forcepts….nope…still stuck. His blood pressure drops. They put me on oxygen.
6:45 am
“Sorry, we have to do an emergency C section! I am so sorry!”(doctor) “It’s ok” (me) “Sorry I have to put his head back in, sorry.” (doctor) “It’s ok…..it’s worth it!” (me) “We’re going to have to ask your husband to go outside for the epidural” (doctor) “I’ll be right back…you are doing so good. I love you.” (Josh)
…………
“Can you feel this pinch?” (doctor) “Yes” (me) “How about this?” (doctor) “Yes” (me) “I am sorry….we’re going to have to put you to sleep, it’s not working!” (doctor) “Ok…ok…it’s ok….it’s ok.” (me)
“All you have to do is breath through this, take deep breaths…..” (doctor) “OK, Ok….ok, ok…” (me)
(to Josh) “I am sorry, you can’t go back in…they have to put her to sleep” (nurse)
…………………………….
7:10 am
Jaydon Ikaika Ho’omanawanuiikalamekaua Makaiwi is born at 6 pounds, 1 ounce.
The nurses take the babies down to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), where they will be for the next week and a half.
10:00 am
I wake up from my surgery…and I look at the time….”Wow, that took a while.” The nurse tending to me took my vitals and helped take off the tape and stuff from my chest. I told the nurse “I am so happy! I am so excited!” the nurse said, “Why?” “Because I get to see my boys!” “You had twins?” “Yes, the first one was natural, the second was C section.” “I am sorry” “It’s ok, it was worth it.” “Wow, you’re making me cry!” “It’s ok, I am just so happy….they are here!”
10:30 am
I get wheeled from recovery to my maternity room on the 6th floor. All I remember was being super tired. Some of my family and my in laws were there. Josh told me that he got to see the babies in the NICU…I was jealous, but I knew I was in no shape to see them…and was happy that at least he could see them.
11:30 am
Our family left me and Josh to sleep in our room. We were so tired.
6:00 pm
Dinner…. Water, jello, and juice….wahoo! I graduated from ice chips! I just want to go down and see babies.
8:00 pm
We finally get to see them! I am so happy!
